Reporting to: Managing Director
Responsible for: QA Officer and Hygiene Team.
Main Purpose
To lead the product quality ensuring ongoing development, maintenance and implementation of quality assurance and control systems within operations. Comply with all hygiene, health, safety, legal and quality requirements. Ensure BRC, customers and other audits are concluded successfully.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Factory Quality: Ensure the factory quality agenda is managed effectively so that products are manufactured legally and safely, in compliance with customer and internal company specifications and standards. Carry out shelf life testing and review results on management meetings.
• Laboratory: Ensure all testing is performed internally and externally by approved contractors within the frequency required. Ensure all testing meets customer and internal requirements. Action in case of out of specification results. Ensure test consumables are available.
• Product Launches: Ensure new products are lunched accordingly with the standard, in a safe/quality/legal manner. Review NPD paperwork.
• Product & Procedures: Ensure all non-conforming products are assessed and relevant actions are taken in together with the managing director and other senior managers (if required), considering safety, quality, integrity and legality. Ensure all procedures/process deviations are analysed and actioned in a safe & legal manner.
• Hygiene & GMP: Ensure that the company has up to date, consistent and appropriate cleaning and GMP procedures that meet the requirements of BRC/Customers. Ensure that staff is trained on the procedures. Ensure procedures are followed all times.
• Compliance Auditing: Ensure the auditing schedule is followed and conduct audits when required. Identify and follow up activities for improvement.
• Procedures & Records: Ensure all procedures are kept to date and followed at all times by the bakery staff.
• Specifications & Labelling: Create internal and customer specifications upon product development and keep all specifications up to date, amend it when changes are required and communicate to relevant staff to communicate to customers. Ensure labelling is correct and meet legal requirements.
• Services Approval Management: Ensure all suppliers and contractors used are approved according to internal procedures and meeting BRC/Customer requirements previously use. Ensure all ingredients, packaging, consumables and chemicals are approved according to internal procedures and meeting BRC/Customer requirements previously use.
• Wastage: Responsible for verifying collection is undertaken and waste reports are received and maintained.
• Documentation: Ensure all documents are up to date and in conformance with BRC and customer requirements. Ensure the document is kept up to date.
• KPI’s: Appraise/review performances set as KPI’s on management meetings. Agree objectives and review results using established procedures. Provide required reports and statistics to enable proper decisions to be made regarding KPI’s.
• Best Practices: Enable best practices to be extended across the business. Liaise with other managers with a view to improve existing best practices.
• Motivation and Development: Focus on enhancing motivation and improving the overall competence and effectiveness of staff considering individually needs and working towards a happy environment. Ensures staff are resourced efficiently. Ensure staff are wearing suitable protective clothing, hairnets and no jewellery. Ensure staff follow and stick to the recipes. Ensures staff are trained on all machinery and processes. Ensures that staff members who have been delegated tasks are carrying those tasks to the required standard.
• Staff Management: Ensure adequate management and that induction/training is given to staff. Assist on the decision of appropriate disciplinary actions and regular appraisals.
